The awkwardness of taking delivery of a pizza in your pyjamas or wondering whether to tip the driver could soon be a thing of the past. The first takeaway delivery by robot has been made in Greenwich, southeast London. Just Eat, the takeaway ordering website, is using a fleet of six-wheeled electric trolleys that have a range of ten miles and trundle along at 4mph, to deliver its food. GPS, a battery of cameras and sensors help the robots to reach their destination and human operators take control remotely if any tricky obstacles are encountered on route. In the first robotic delivery, a customer ordered falafel and lamb cutlets from a Turkish restaurant online.
