Palmerston North cyclist Alex West crashed while riding in Europe two years ago, so changed tack and is now part of a new online racing platform Zwift, which combines the physical act of cycling with gaming. People can race online against others around the world and the race is shown on a screen. David Unwin/Stuff Palmerston North Cyclist Alex West now does his racing indoors, rather than on the road. West still had ambitions in road racing, but after taking part in a Zwift competition, he was hooked on the online racing scene. West, who works at the bike store MyRide in Palmerston North, races twice a week and does all this training in his garage, mainly in the evenings.
