Changes to the road layout at the top of the Pahīatua Track are the first visible signs Mercury has arrived to build the 33-turbine first stage of the Turitea wind farm. "The key thing has been to make it look different for people who drive there a lot, to make them aware of turning vehicles." But the changes were not going to be enough to cope with larger vehicles carrying the turbines, their towers and blades up to the wind farm in 2020. Works on the road access may start in August and it is likely there will be some stop-go traffic management in place during the work. The timing of construction of the other 27 turbines at the southern end of the farm has not been decided.
