Rights groups: Stop atrocities against Rohingya in Myanmar

A group of women’s and human rights organisations on Saturday protested the persecution of the Rohingya people in Myanmar’s Rakhine state and demanded an immediate end to the genocide against the community. They also demanded measures to stop the mass killing, rape and destruction of Rohingya villages in Myanmar and for the Rohingya to be granted Myanmar citizenship. The organisations also called upon the Bangladesh government to ensure security for Rohingya women and children, provide 24-hour healthcare facilities in the camps, and to organise proper counselling for Rohingya women and children. They came up with the demand at a sit-in programme titled “Solidarity with the Persecuted Rohingya People,” jointly organised by Naripokkho and Durbar Network, at Satmasjid Road in Dhaka. Different organisations including UBINIG, Narigrontho Probortona, Sangskriti Bikash Kendra, Sabujer Ovijan Foundation, and Gonoshasthaya Kendra expressed solidarity with the sit-in programme.
