Shoppers can expect to see a large police presence at The Base while police look for a fleeing rider. A fleeing motorcyclist has been arrested after trying to hide from police at Hamilton's biggest shopping centre during lunch hour. A brief chase ensued in Te Rapa, but police abandoned the pursuit for safety reasons after the rider headed into The Base Shopping Centre on Te Rapa Rd. A motorcycle was found abandoned at The Base shortly afterwards. Police identified the culprit through CCTV and spoke to people in the area who helped police locate him near to the shopping centre.
