Destination Queenstown will seek a $900,000 funding increase from the Queenstown Lakes District Council after members this morning voted in favour of the move. DQ chairman Matt Hollyer said the vote was carried 79.3% in favour. If approved by the council, the increase to the levy, a targeted rate on commercial and accommodation properties, will increase DQ's annual core funding to $4.5 million. Its funding in subsequent years would revert to the normal annual incremental increase determined by the council. A year ago DQ members voted against a proposal to increase funding 10% over three years after failing to reach the 75% threshold.
