I’ve felt from the first that tacking “and Climate Change” to the Environment portfolio was a trifle brazen. The Infrastructure portfolio is Black Friday and Christmas together for carbon emissions; Minister for Climate Change was Lent and Ramadan. Next, the Minister of Middle Class Prosperity is the brightest, even most challenging of the new cabinet baubles. Is the minister charged with achieving prosperity for the venerated middle class, or — perhaps more plausible — making sure the middle class’ dive into prosperity doesn’t get out of hand? Reduced fares for middle class folks attending revivals of Cats or free tickets for Come From Away?
