Some officers believe that the introduction of the reward can further add to the challenge in determining what is an offence and what is not. When the reward is introduced and more people start reporting such offences, our work will become more challenging to determine which is a genuine offence," an officer said. Calcutta police on Wednesday had launched an initiative to encourage people to report the offence through a particular WhatsApp number and through the Bondhu app. Sources said, Lalbazar had received only 22 complaints - six on Thursday and 16 on Friday - on its WhatsApp number and the Bondhu app in the past 48 hours.
