Review: The hero worship in this DH Laurence biography should be censored

Early in March 1930 DH Lawrence died of tuberculosis. Guilty of hero worship on many counts, the book seems to celebrate Lawrence’s nasty, neurotic personality. Burning Man: The Ascent of DH Lawrence begins by citing an infamous censorship trial that secured Lawrence’s place in literary history. “I always feel as if I stood naked for the fire of Almighty God to go through me,” Lawrence confessed to Edward Garnett in February 1913. Lawrence confessed to Dorothy Brett he suffered from a similar psychotic disorder.
