The controversial appointment of Anele Qaba as the CEO of the Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) must be reversed immediately, urged Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC Zolile Williams. Williams, whose mandate includes aiding municipalities to operate efficiently, stepped in on Thursday after National Treasury withheld more than R700 million in grant funding from the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality in July because of Qaba's appointment. Qaba was the metro's executive director for economic development, tourism and agriculture - and was suspended in June last year following alleged financial misconduct, pending investigations into the matter.
