Starting from 12am on December 22, those who have stayed for two hours or more in the UK in the past 14 days will be barred from boarding flights heading to Hong Kong, said Health Secretary Sophia Chan Siu-chee. Chan announced the tightening of Hong Kong’s anti-epidemic measures today, preventing the new Covid strains from the UK to enter the city. The new mutated Covid strain from the UK was said to be 70 percent more transmissible, according to health experts. Those who violated the latest measures will be fined a penalty of HK$5,000. The current social distancing measures will also be extended for another two weeks until January 6 next year, including the evening dine-in ban, the 2-person cap on social gatherings and dining in at eateries and the mask law.
