Share TweetBy Roy MabasaAmbassador Tomas delos Reyes Padilla, once extolled by former South Korean President Kim Dae Jung for his devotion and contribution to the development of Philippines-Korea ties, passed away on Friday at the age of 86. Padilla, whose career spanned five Philippine presidents from Carlos Garcia to Fidel Ramos, served as ambassador to the Republic of Korea from 1986 to 1990. A Foreign Service Officers examination topnotcher in 1956, he entered the Department of Foreign Affairs the following year. Padilla belonged to a family of public servants, being the son of former Supreme Court Justice Sabino Padilla and a nephew of former Senator Ambrosio Padilla.
