Magdalo Party-List Representative Gary Alejano aired this opinion as he condemned Palace’s pronouncement that the Philippines should be ‘thankful’ for the China-established rescue center at the Kagitingan Reef. “Maybe we should be thankful [for the built rescue center],” said Panelo when asked to comment on reports that China has occupied an area in Kagitingan Reef to establish a rescue center. Panelo added that building a rescue center is not bad for it will help distressed seamen in the area. Alejano has also stated his intention to file a resolution condemning China’s establishment of a rescue center in Kagitingan Reef and urging the Philippine government to file diplomatic protest
