Reserves tow Gilas to 31-point rout of India


Gilas Pilipinas waxed hot from behind the arc to dominate India, 101-70, on Saturday in the 39th William Jones Cup men’s basketball tournament at the Taipei Heping basketball gymnasium in Taiwan. Filipino-German Christian Standhardinger contributed 10 points and Carl Bryan Cruz had nine points also for Gilas, which shot 17-of-36 shooting from the three-point zone. After leading 27-24 at the end of first period, the Filipinos dropped a 27-7 bomb in the next stage to erect a 46-24 lead with less than three minutes left before the break. India’s 6’10 center Amjyot Singh Gill posted 22 points but India remained winless after eight games. The Philippines will face Iran at 5 p.m. today, hoping to get a win and get a chance to win a bronze medal.
