Esmero, a University of the Philippines Integrated School standout, dominated the girls’ 14-year 50m backstroke in 33.65 seconds, eclipsing the three-year old 34-second mark of Carmen Rose Matabuena. Veteran international campaigners Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh and Kyla Soguilon as well as newcomer Ruth Denise Sula likewise shone in their respective pet events. “It’s overwhelming to see these kids break records in their respective events. I’m happy to see them grow and we’re looking forward to see them in big international competitions in the future. We’re also thankful to the Philippine Sports Commission which is very supportive on the grassroots developmental program of PSL,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
