OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENTSrinagar: Police are investigating reports that suggested a north Kashmiri youth said to be pursuing PhD in a premier university in the country had joined militant ranks. A picture in which the youth is wielding an AK 47 rifle to announce he has joined militancy has been circulating on the Internet. "The truth so far is that a Kupwara youth pursuing PhD in UP is missing and a youth matching him has announced he has joined the Hizb ul Mujahideen somewhere in Shopian. Khan worked as a contractual lecturer in a government college in Kupwara before he joined militancy. Most of the militants who have joined militancy are in their late teens or early 20s and have left their studies halfway to join the militant ranks.
