Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala's widow and mother received the Ashok Chakra awarded to him posthumously during the Republic Day Parade on Friday by President Ram Nath Kovind. President Kovind was seen getting emotional as he wiped his eyes after handing over the gallantry medal to Nirala's widow and mother. Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala gunned down two terrorists after his team faced lethal fire and grenades. On November 18, 2017, based on specific tech intelligence, an offensive was launched jointly by the Garud Air Force commandos and Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Chanderger village of Bandipora district in J&K. While the detachment laid in wait, six terrorists hiding in the house, rushed out, shooting and lobbing grenades at the Garuds.
