KUALA LUMPUR: A 40-year-old male religious teacher has been detained in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a student. "He has been teaching at the religious school in Kampung Pandan for about 11 years," he said when contacted on Saturday (Dec 20). It was previously reported that an 11-year-old student was allegedly sexually assaulted by a religious teacher, leading the police to start a probe into the matter. In the report, it was alleged that the suspect had sexually assaulted a student from a religious school based in Kampung Pandan. A police investigation has been opened under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
