After complaints about long delays for funding, the Red Cross announced Wednesday that Fort McMurray small businesses can apply for money that was first promised in August. The Red Cross has handed out an initial $1,000 to each business. During the second phase, from October 19 to December 19, small businesses can apply for more funding. The Red Cross said once it has a sufficient number of applications it will have a better picture of the amounts businesses will receive. The relief agency said small businesses can expect cheques within 10 days of receiving approval.
