OTTAWA — The NDP’s House leader, Peter Julian, is stepping down from his position to focus on a potential leadership bid. MP Nathan Cullen and Quebec MP Alexandre Boulerice have indicated they’re not going to run for the leadership, leaving the field wide open. The decision for a leadership race came when he failed to secure majority support from his caucus to continue as leader during the NDP’s annual convention in April. Mulcair said he’s happy to see “high quality” candidates stepping up to the plate, including Julian and others who will present themselves. Meanwhile, Mulcair announced Tuesday that Murray Rankin will serve as the NDP’s new House leader.
