Red Island Regatta offers sprint and coastal rowing events

Rowing PEI is hosting its first regatta Saturday in Brudenell with a unique combination of events including sprint races as well as coastal rowing in open waterRed Island Regatta co-chair Stephen Murray says he thinks this is the first time sprint and coastal rowing events have been combined in a rowing regatta in North America. The club was able to offer both events because of the "more robust" boats purchased to handle both rough and calm water conditions, he said. Competing in home watersClub members are excited about the Red Island Regatta and the opportunity to compete at home. It is costly to go off island to be able to participate in these events," he said. Allowing the Island's youth to compete at home is especially important as the next year's Canada Games approaches, he added.
