A large amount of farmland was gouged out by the Orari River flooding this Woodbury-Four Peaks farm at the end of May. Environment Canterbury (ECan) is receptive to a suggestion from flood affected farmers in South Canterbury to review the river rating system. “The total funding for South Canterbury is only $1 million with probably 50 farms affected. They [farmers] are very much out of pocket.”The Government has given $4m for a Canterbury Flood Recovery Fund administered by MPI. South Canterbury Rural Support Trust member Jo Goodhew said she was thrilled to see so many people attend the meeting.
