Timaru Civil Defence is keeping a watching brief on the Rangitata River after heavy rainfall. The Timaru District Civil Defence team is monitoring river levels of the Rangitata River following significant rainfall in the headlands. The extended period of very high flows significantly increases the risk of bank erosion and river breakouts, including into the south branch, a Timaru District Council statement on Wednesday afternoon says.
