puneUpdated: Aug 17, 2020 21:29 ISTThe state government on Monday appointed Dr Rajesh Deshmukh as the new district collector of Pune, according to an order issued by Sitaram Kunte, additional chief secretary. Deshmukh, a 2008 batch Indian Administrative officer, comes as Pune district collector from Haffkine institute in Mumbai where he is currently managing director. In his order, Kunte asked Deshmukh to take charge as Pune district collector on immediate basis. The new district collector is likely to take charge by Tuesday in Pune, which is one of the worst affected district due to Covid pandemic. Deshmukh was previously the district collector at Yavatmal where he was credited with reducing the number of farmers suicide.
