Rainy spell ahead, but not too heavy

Though sporadic rain is expected in Calcutta and its adjoining areas over the next two days, there is no threat of heavy rain, a Met official said. “A cyclonic circulation over southeastern Uttar Pradesh extends up to 5.8km above the mean sea level. A trough of low pressure extends from Punjab to south Assam across Haryana, the centre of the cyclonic circulation, and sub-Himalayan Bengal, extending up to 3.1km above the mean sea level,” it said. But the rain will be intermittent, not heavy, said G.K. Das, director of the India Meteorological Centre in Alipore. In the past 24 hours, New Market received 58mm of rain, Ultadanga 53mm, Dhapa 50mm and Behala 42mm.
