The Palmerston North City Council has water tanks for sale at cost from the manufacturer. Even though Palmerston North has no water restrictions so far this summer, the city council is encouraging people to collect their own rainwater for emergency or outdoor use. It has been showcasing rainwater collection tanks at recent city events, selling about a dozen of the 200-litre tanks for the $105 the council paid for them. Environmental sustainability committee chairman Brent Barrett said the domestic use of rainwater tanks made huge sense. The council's water and emergency management teams have been in charge of the tank sale trial.
