Water-logging caused by the last two days’ incessant rainfall is taking a toll on the crops and fisheries in the low-lying areas across in several districts. Aman paddy fields in vast areas and some early winter vegetables have also been inundated. In Kurigram, squalls lashed the paddy fields of several hundred acres, bending the stems down. Paddy fields in Sadar, Rajarhat, Phulbari, Nageshwari and Chilmari upazilas were battered by strong winds on Saturday, but the crops may survive if those fields are not inundated, according to DAE officials. A man in Kushtia’s Mirpur upazila was crushed to death after a mud wall of his house collapsed on him on Saturday morning.
