According to the union functionaries, a railway strike could see a daily loss to the exchequer of around Rs2,500 crore. Indian Railway Establishment Code Rule 237: It stipulates that the time of a railway servant is at the disposal of the government that pays him. The railway employees have a long list of demands, including a special category status because of the dangers involved in train running. Railway Services (Conduct) Rules, 1966, and Railway Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1968: Under these laws, strikes can be termed as indiscipline and the railway servant stands to be dismissed from service. Rule 7 of Railway Services (Conduct) rules, 1966: It mandates that no railway servant will participate in any demonstration that inconveniences the public or incites any kind of offence.
