Railways go green, opt for LED

The Central and Western Railways have replaced regular lights at platforms with LED ones. Rail authorities said on Thursday that LED lights have been installed at all 726 stations on WR and 432 stations on CR. The solar panels will help in cutting down carbon emission by 350 tonnes per annum. The railways will save Rs 10 lakh annually. The solar panels have been installed at seven railway stations — Mumbai Central, Lower Parel, Mahim, Khar Road, Andheri, Ram Mandir, and Borivali.
