NDTV called the raids - they were conducted on four locations in Delhi and Dehradun - "shocking" and cried foul, alleging this meant muzzling the free media. In a separate statement, the Editors Guild of India joined NDTV in expressing "deep concern" over the raids. "The law is taking its course, there is no witch-hunt," information and broadcasting minister Venkaiah Naidu said, responding to questions on the raids. Opposition parties flayed the raids and alleged it was a symptom of a dispensation intolerant of any dissent. Many alleged the raids were a "watershed moment" that brought back memories of the Emergency when the media lay gagged.
