The workers, who have been employed at Moizuddin Textile at Paschim Chandura area of Kaliakair in Gazipur, alleged that the factory management had misguided police against the workers, who tried to disperse them during their peaceful protests. However, the factory management claimed that the workers had vandalized machinery and other equipment in the factory during the protests, causing massive damage to the factory assets. For their part, the workers alleged the factory management had been trying to convince them to accept 60% of their wages for April despite their having worked full time. Sushanta Sarker, additional superintendent of Gazipur Industrial Police, said police reached the factory premises but found it closed. Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, inspector (intelligence) of Narayanganj Industrial Police, said the management of Alpine Knit Fabrics would disburse their workers’ wages by tomorrow (Wednesday).
