"An intellectual says a simple thing in a hard way. An artist says a hard thing in a simple way." The intellectual reaches for complicated language partly because simple language requires courage. They say the hard thing anyway, as clearly as they can manage, and trust that honesty is its own form of communication. The hardest thing to do in any form of communication is to say a hard thing simply and trust that the simplicity is enough.
