Qatar World Cup: Amnesty report says FIFA 'directly linked' to human rights abuses

Security guards in Qatar are working in conditions 'which amount to forced labour', including on projects linked to this year's World Cup, a scathing new report by Amnesty International says. Amnesty's 'They Think That We're Machines' report implicates World Cup organisers FIFA as 'directly linked' to these human rights abuses. They provided services to guard sites such as government ministries and football stadiums, as well as other crucial infrastructure for the World Cup. Some of the companies provided security for recent FIFA tournaments in Qatar, including the 2020 Club World Cup and the 2021 Arab Cup. It comes just days after the draw was made for the Qatar World Cup in November and December at a glittering ceremony in the country's capital, Doha.
