Qatar Airways and Japan Airlines have dismissed reports linking them to a stake acquisition as part of efforts to turn around Malaysia Airlines. A Qatar Airways spokesperson confirmed with the New Straits Times that the Qatari state-owned airline was not a bidder for Malaysia Airlines. A business daily recently reported that Khazanah had shortlisted Qatar Airways, Japan Airlines and China Southern Airlines as among the four bidders for Malaysia Airlines. Following the report, Bloomberg said Japan Airlines was not planning to take a stake in Malaysia Airlines. Instead, it was waiting for approval to begin a tie-up with Malaysia Airlines, the news agency quoted a Japan Airlines spokesman recently.
