Heavy to very heavy showers of more than 12cm are espected in some parts of Punjab and Haryana in the same period. Officials of the meteorological centre here said monsoon was likely to remain very active in Punjab, including Chandigarh, in the next 36 hours, with moderate to heavy rain at most places in all districts. The first major downpour of the southwest monsoon hit normal life in Punjab on Saturday, lowering temperature and exposing the hollow preparedness of the civic bodies after streets were flooded in minutes. Amritsar received 3cm rain, which caused water to log in some areas. Banned polythene packets, household waste, and cow dung had washed into the Ganda Nullah and choked it.
