Pubs without beer garden can still open to punters from April 12 due to loophole

Pubs with no beer gardens could be allowed to use their car parks to serve punters when they are allowed to reopen, it has been hoped. Under Prime Minister Boris Johnson's roadmap plan to bring England out of lockdown, it is hoped pubs and restaurants could be allowed to serve customers outdoors from April 12. But fears have previously been voiced that pubs that do not have an outdoor sitting area face a massive disadvantage. But the Campaign for Pubs expressed disappointment that the VAT cut was just for food purchases, and hadn't been extended to booze. “While this helps some pubs, it does nothing for many non-food pubs while giving millions of pounds of tax relief to fast-food chains,” a spokesperson said.
