The Kaya Forests will soon be destroyed if people are not barred from invading them, nominated Senator Emma Mbura has said. She joins an increasing number of people calling for the forests’ protection, citing their value as a tourist attraction and a way of preserving Mijikenda traditions. This comes a week after environmentalists, human rights organisations and elders in Kwale raised concerns about the destruction of the Kwale Baraza Park. The park is a tourist attraction. Kaya elders are pushing for its recognition as a heritage site under Unesco.
