Proposed retail development at the former Showgrounds Hill site has drawn a strong response from South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce members. (File)Many South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce members appear to be strongly opposed to the proposed development at Showgrounds Hill, according to a recent survey. Of the chamber’s 530 members, 166 participated in a survey on the proposed development with 112 indicating they opposed it. Some support for the project was contingent on it being “big box” retail development, rather than a mix of options. Meanwhile, The CBD Group is holding a Public Meeting at 5.30pm on Thursday 10th September at the Bay Community Lounge to discuss the proposed Showgrounds Retail Development.
