Property in Uchumi Supermarket at Taj mall in Embakasi, Nairobi, will be auctioned next Wednesday over rent arrears. Kipng’etich said the changes would see the retail chain close its Taj Mall, Embu, Eldoret Sugarland, Nakuru and Kisii outlets. Items to be auctioned range from 15 computer sets, 22 public address systems, printers, music systems, foodstuff to condoms. Uchumi shut operations in Uganda and Tanzania in October 2015 to stem further losses. He said this will help reduce operation costs and enable Uchumi concentrate on a leaner structure suitable for the business environment.
