Prominent family donates part of century-old homestead to City of West Kelowna


Mar Jok, pictured here, purchased a roughly 400-acre homestead with his brother Mar Fee in the late 1950s. The Golden Pheasant Café was opened by Mar Fee and Mar Jok on Bernard Avenue in downtown Kelowna in 1929. According to Marr, Mar Jok was an exceptional athlete while studying at Revelstoke Secondary School. Mar Jok passed away in West Kelowna in 1983. Mar Fee, centre, and his brother Mar Jok, far left, came to Canada from China's Guangdong province in 1912.
