Professor Yash Pal, eminent scientist, dies at 90


Professor Yash Pal, eminent scientist and academician, died at the age of 90 at his Noida house late on Monday night. Yash Pal was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1976 and the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honour, in 2013. Yash Pal studied Physics from Panjab University before earning a PhD degree in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1958. He started his career with the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) as a member of the cosmic rays group. Yash Pal also went on to become as the first Director of Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, in 1973.
