The workers under the banner of Chittagong Prime Mover Trailer Sramik Union called the strike from 9am on Saturday. Shipment of export-import containers between Chittagong Port and 19 private inland container depots (ICDs) have remained suspended due to the strike. According to the Bangladesh Inland Container Depot Association (BICDA), there are around 8,000 prime movers-trailers across the country. Terming the strike as a wild one, Md Abu Bakar Siddique, executive president of Chittagong Prime Mover-Trailer Owners Association said that the strike should be withdrawn immediately in the greatest interest of the country’s export-import activities. “Around 4,000 containers from Chittagong port are transported throughout the country every day.
