Priest stabbed

Dhaka, July 2 (PTI): A 48-year-old Hindu priest in Bangladesh was today stabbed and critically injured by unidentified assailants, a day after another priest from the minority community and a Buddhist leader were hacked to death by machete-wielding Islamic State militants. Bhabasindhu Roy of the Sri Sri Radha Gobinda Temple in the southwestern Satkhira district was attacked inside the temple compound as he slept, police said. Yesterday, a Hindu priest and a Buddhist leader were hacked to death by IS militants in the country, which has been reeling from a wave of attacks on liberal activists and religious minorities. Police sources said seven to eight assailants had stormed into the priest's house and stabbed him in his chest and back after he had opened the door following a knock, thinking it was the night guard. Hours earlier machete-wielding assailants had killed a Buddhist farmer, Mong Shwe Lung Marma, 55, a former ward-level leader of the ruling Awami League.
