Preston SACK manager Alex Neil after defeat by Luton leaves them languishing 16th in the table

Preston have parted company with boss Alex Neil after a dismal run of just one win in nine games saw them slide down the table. Neil is understood to have felt disgruntled at the mass changes in January and subsequent performances were poor, with Preston winning just three of 17 matches in 2021. ‘He leaves us with our thanks and very best wishes for the future,’ read a club statement, which also confirmed Frankie McAvoy will take interim charge. Neil admitted after the match: ‘I'll have a tough few days now just processing where we are and what we need to do. They could only achieve 14th place the following campaign and finished 9th last term.
