The Chief and people of Newtown Area Council near Half-Assini, Jomoro District, have commended President John Dramani Mahama's swift response to their plight barely five months after promising to reconstruct their road. Nana Erzoah Kaku I, Chief of Enzemetianu, a beneficiary community, made the commendation in an interview with the GNA at Effasu near Newtown, at the weekend. Nana Kaku explained that the President, while inaugurating a cold store facility at Half-Assini, in April, promised to fix their road under the oil enclave roads. He explained that the road was constructed under the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) regime but it was not tarred. He said the deplorable state of the road sometimes often cut the community off the rest of the country in the rainy season.
