President Moreno flees to coast as violence flares in Ecuador


Protesters clash with police in Quito. Ecuador’s government has declared a state of emergency FERNANDO VERGARA/APProtesters broke into Ecuador’s parliament last night and fought police after the president fled the capital amid claims that the violence had been orchestrated by Venezuela. Protesters broke through police lines and into the national assembly to demand the fall of Mr Moreno’s government. The president, who declared a state of emergency over the nationwide protests, had earlier moved the government to the coastal city of Guayaquil. Neighbouring countries blamed President Maduro of Venezuela for orchestrating the violence.
