The deceased was identified as Abdul Khalek, 48, a supporter of Awami League-nominated chairman candidate Abul Kalam Azad. “At one point, both groups exchanged several rounds of gunshots, leaving one dead on the spot and five others injured.”The injured were taken to Jamalpur General Hospital, said the OC. The situation was tense in-and-around the area following the incident. “Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble,”the OC added.
