Powerful winds could cause power outages in Toronto Wednesday

Powerful winds in the GTA Wednesday could cause local power outages, bad driving conditions and even minor damage, Environment Canada warned. The wind will likely start picking up early Wednesday afternoon, said a special weather statement issued at 5 a.m. Wind speeds are forecast to reach 50 km/h, with gusts up to 80 km/h — strong enough to cause minor tree and building damage, according to Environment Canada. “A few local power outages are also possible,” the alert read. “Driving conditions may also be difficult at times due to the strong and gusty winds.”The winds are expected to slow back down Wednesday evening, Environment Canada said.
