Later the same day, the boy’s father received a call from a man who claimed to have kidnapped his son, and demanded ₹50 lakh as ransom. The Crime Branch’s Unit X, which was conducting parallel inquiries into the case, traced the location of the cell phone from which the ransom call was made to Manor in Palghar district. DCP (Detection-I) Nisar Tamboli said, “We raided the lodge and found the boy and a 19-year-old youth in a room. To raise money for her, the boy decided to stage his own kidnapping and enlisted the aid of his 19-year-old friend.
