BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A local court has affirmed the proclamation of Irene Montilla as mayor of Isabela town in Negros Occidental. La Carlota Regional Trial Court Judge Mila Yap-Camiso dismissed the electoral protest filed by former mayor Joselito Malabor after a revision of votes showed that Montilla won by 22 votes. Montilla was proclaimed winner after a tally of the votes showed that she got 48 votes more than Malabor‘s 13,844. With the court decision, Montilla called on Sangguniang Bayan members to cooperate with her administration. The vice mayor of the town, Renato Malabor Jr., is a nephew of her opponent.
